Siilo

Not just another chat app

Cases are a central part for a medical professionals day to day tasks. Siilo has a  unique opportunity where we can help fill the gaps where the current medical industry falls short, by creating a system for cases that is easily shared within and beyond hospital walls.

Due to the lack of an efficient system for managing cases within the app, I was assigned the responsibility of conceptualizing a solution that would enhance the visibility of cases across the app. The ultimate goal was to empower users to engage in productive discussions about patients, ensuring that the right information is shared at the right time and with the right individuals.

Getting a professionals opinion

We wanted to understand the way how Healthcare professionals created patient cases within the app and how they get that information from the app to their Eletctronic healthcare record system. After speaking with our users and how they use cases, we started to unpack multiple opportunities on how to make cases a viable option within the Siilo app.

The Opportunity

Medical professionals require a system where when they create a case that the case be searchable,  and shareable with the right person at the right time.

userJourney

We gathered how our users create cases in their daily workflow so we can better understand how to incorporate their workflow within the Siilo app. These learnings help us structure how we would approach the desing of creating a case within the app.

Giving cases a home

After carefully gathering all our research feedback, we couldn't ignore the resounding request from medical professionals: they needed a straightforward way to locate their cases. So, to provide users with a reliable and accessible hub for the most relevant information, we proudly introduced a new tab. By elevating the cases into it's own section we give the feature the flexibility it needs to evolve into the workflow tool that our users have been wanting.

Case creation

We heard from our users that the current way they create cases through the app was a very simple task where they put the patient identifier, title, and detals about the case and then post. We wanted to encompass the simplicity of creating a case with the foundational items they would need to properly do their job. After doing more research on how cases are created in the medical industry we came across a standardized format that medical professionals utlize which is called the SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendaton) method along with the patient identifier being Name, and DOB.

Spreading the knowledge

If there's no way to share and discuss a case smoothly within the app, then the case is pretty much useless. So, we had to really think through every step of a medical professional's process to ensure their workflow was as seamless as possible. In our research, we found that medical professionals often need to communicate with their teammates efficiently.

Who, where, and when?

Knowing who and when to contact a colleague is one of the most important and asked for feature in the Siilo app. In the system of cases knowing who is on shift is vital because if we know who to message we can connect the right people at the right time and not annoy those who are not working which has led to burnout throughout the medical industry.
